Dental Radiology
Dental radiographs, also called dental x-rays, are images that allow Dr. Cooper to examine the internal anatomy of your pet’s teeth, roots, surrounding bone structure, and jaw. This allows us to detect and diagnose oral health problems that cannot be seen with the naked eye, but will likely cause your pet pain and discomfort.
When Are Dental Radiographs Needed?
Dr. Cooper might require dental radiographs to diagnose the underlying cause of oral discomfort in your pet or to further examine a pet that has been displaying signs and symptoms of an oral problem, such as:
- Swelling in the mouth or face
- Missing teeth or loose teeth
- Difficulty eating or drinking
- Excessive drooling or swallowing
- Rubbing or pawing at the face
We also recommend dental x-rays during a regular dental cleaning and exam. These types of x-rays help our veterinarian establish a baseline of your pet’s oral health to help prevent the development of future problems. They also enable us detect and diagnose existing oral health concerns before they become serious enough to cause your pet significant discomfort or pain.
